Introduction
The 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 58), begins today at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year’s theme will focus on “Challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls.”
The annual gathering of States to address critical issues related to gender equality and women’s rights will bring together Member States, UN entities and accredited NGOs from around the world to take stock of progress and remaining challenges towards meeting the eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

Investing in Girls and Women: Everybody Wins
Women: Everybody Wins” in the South Delegates Dining Room in UN Headquarters from 8am to 10am. The event is co-hosted by Women Deliver, the GirlEffect.org and Plan International and is in support of Every Woman Every Child. The event will advocate for why investing in girls and women’s reproductive health, rights and education are both the right and economical way to achieve sustainable development. The event will be lived tweeted from @unfEWEC.
На Клиниката за гинекологија лани биле извршени 323 абортуси, за разлика од 2012 година кога имало 270
Бројот на абортуси во земјава бележат благ пораст, иако измените во законот за абортус беа со цел тој да се намали. Само на Клиниката за гинекологија, која е една од најчестите установи каде се вршат абортуси, во текот на 2013 година, според податоците од оваа установа, биле извршени 323 абортуси, што е повеќе во споредба со 2012 година кога имало 270 случаи на жени кои ја прекинале бременоста.
Од Институтот за јавно здравје не можат да потврдат дали бројот на абортуси се зголемува, бидејќи се' уште се собираат податоците за минатата година. Од таму велат дека во 2012 година во земјава имало околу 5.387 абортуси.
Дали овој благ пораст на бројот на абортуси укажува дека задолжителното советување и трите дена што со новите законски измени се даваат за преиспитување на одлуката, многу не помагаат да ги предомислат жените од абортус?
Од Клиниката за гинекологија велат дека 16 жени кои дошле со одлука за абортус, откако биле советувани или им била кажана процедурата за абортус, не се вратиле на клиниката. „Ова не значи дека тие се предомислиле, туку можеби да се обратиле во некоја приватна установа“, велат од Клиниката за гинекологија. Дотолку повеќе што стручњаците велат дека, иако можеби во помал обем, се' уште имаат приватни амбуланти кои вршат незаконски абортуси.

“Women’s economic empowerment is a mirage if we ignore unpaid work done at home”
GENEVA (8 March 2014) – On International Women’s Day, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights, Magdalena Sepúlveda, calls on States to ensure that unpaid care is better valued, supported and shared – by men and by States:
“Women’s economic empowerment is a mirage if we don’t also take into account the unpaid work they are doing in the home. In most countries, women – especially those living in poverty - work longer hours than men when unpaid work is taken into account, yet they receive lower earnings and less recognition.
Heavy and unequal care responsibilities are a norm that is taken for granted and stand as a major barrier to gender equality, taking up women’s time and denying their equal enjoyment of the rights to education, decent work, health and participation in government, among others.
Unpaid care work such as cooking, cleaning and caring for children and the elderly entrenches women’s poverty and social exclusion when it is not socially recognized and shared. Care should be a social and collective responsibility for men and women and supported by the State, rather than falling entirely on women’s shoulders.
