LEBANON - THREE GENERATIONS OF WOMEN
One of the three strategic objectives of the IFAD Policy on Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment is “to achieve a more equitable balance in workloads and in the sharing of economic and social benefits”.
Rural women of all ages spend much of their day engaged in domestic chores, including collecting water and firewood, processing and preparing food, travelling and transporting, and caregiving.
These tasks are unpaid and restrict a woman’s time and mobility. Moreover, the drudgery can cause poor health and nutrition for a woman’s entire family, in particular infants and young children. These domestic chores are a major constraint to the ability of smallholder farmers to increase agricultural productivity and achieve food and nutrition security.
Labour-saving technologies and practices promote inclusive development by reducing the domestic workload and freeing up time to perform productive tasks, to participate in decision-making processes and development opportunities, and to enjoy more leisure time. They also make rural areas more attractive places for younger people to reside. When the domestic workload is reduced, women are the principal beneficiaries but men also benefit, depending on the extent to which they perform these tasks.
It is a comprehensive knowledge centre for gender statistics and information on various aspects of (in)equality between women and men.
The main purpose of this database is:

To build a broad overview of statistics on gender, highlighting differences and inequalities between both sexes.

To support the measurement of whether, or to what extent, gender equality is de facto being achieved.

To act as a reliable resource in formulation and monitoring of policies that are beneficial for both women and men and will facilitate making appropriate decisions towards the advancement of gender equality.

BURNING ISSUE
International support for Polish women who face a real threat of a total abortion ban
Early April ASTRA initiated a call to action on behalf of the Federation for Women and Family Planning, Polish ASTRA member and host of ASTRA Secretariat to gather international support. The solidarity action and Facebook Show solidarity with Polish women!event gained a lot international and national interest. Over 170 photos from around the world were received along with words of support and solidarity statements. The action is still ongoing and anyone interested is welcome to join - submit a photo of yourself with a coat hanger and holding paper with “Solidarity with Polish women” written on it. We also encourage you to use the hashtag #odzyskacwybor / #reclaimingchoice. You are also welcome to send photos on behalf of organizations or as individuals.
