The international debate surrounding the environmental, social and human rights responsibilities of corporations has been gaining momentum. Growing public criticism of transnational corporations and banks has contributed to this debate. The list of criticisms is long: pollution scandals, disregard for basic labour and human rights standards, massive bribery allegations, on top of widespread corporate tax avoidance strategies.

1 April 2016 Article: Nearly 800 million people remain chronically undernourished and 159 million children under 5 years of age are stunted. Approximately 50 million children under 5 years are wasted, over two billion people suffer from micronutrient deficiencies and 1.9 billion people are affected by overweight of which over 600 million are obese. The prevalence of overweight and obesity is increasing in nearly all countries.

GENDER
At present, rapid urbanization is challenging both national and local governments in their role to develop compact, inclusive, connected and integrated cities. In this process of fast urbanization, failure to fully mainstream gender equality into urban planning, legislation and economic development is hindering the inclusiveness of cities and preventing the full integration of women and girls in the economic, social, political and cultural life of cities. UN-Habitat is committed to the goal of gender equality in human settlements development. Women and men, girls and boys, experience urbanization and cities differently and benefit differently from the opportunities available therein.
Indeed, gender inequalities persist and women and girls benefit less from urbanization and urban spaces than men and boys. In fact, women and girls in cities will face a range of specific barriers and vulnerabilities in the form of gender based discrimination: gender inequality, violence against women, poverty, unpaid care-work, limited control over assets, unequal participation in public and private decision-making; as well as, barriers to education, employment, housing and basic services.

Calls are increasing for a first female World Bank President in the current Bank presidential selection that happens every five years. A female Bank President would symbolize the increasing power of women. But a woman President alone will not be enough to right the Bank.
The same can be said for a feminist President although s/he likely would laudably promote Bank policies and investments that equally benefit men and women. S/he likely would strive to eradicate remaining patriarchal mindsets among some Bank staff and Board members.
Without doubt women’s rights and gender diversity promoters, myself among them, believe the Bank should select a feminist non-American President, preferably a woman of color. The American male monopoly on the Bank’s top job must end. The Bank’s non-democratic presidential selection process must end. The US, the largest Bank shareholder, has hand-picked all 12 past presidents, every one of them an American male.
Скопје, 19 септември 2016 (МИА) - Владата на денешната седница го донесе Предлог-буџетот за 2017 година кој е развоен, со рекордно ниво на капитални инвестиции, повисоки за дури 20 отсто во споредба со оваа година, и во текот на наредниот ден ќе го достави до Собранието, информира министерот за финансии Кирил Миноски.
Вкупните приходи, нагласи, се планираат на ниво од 187,6 милијарди денари, што е за 7,6 отсто повеќе во однос на 2016 година, вкупните расходи на ниво од 206,22 милијарди денари, или за 4,5 отсто повеќе во однос на годинава, а капиталните инвестиции се планира да имаат рекорден износ од 26,95 милијарди денари. Буџетскиот дефицит е предвидено да изнесува 3 отсто од БДП, односно 18,6 милијарди денари во апсолутен износ.
- Буџетот за 2017 година е работен врз основа на проекција за раст на економијата од 3 отсто следната година. Сметам дека ова е реална проекција, бидејќи во неа се инкорпорирани предвидувањата за глобалниот раст следната година, ефектите од Брегзитот, што ќе влијае на забавување на растот во земјите на ЕУ, како и очекувањата за домашната состојба, односно разрешување на политичката криза по завршување на парламентарните избори. Растот на економската активност ќе биде придвижен од извозот, што се предвидува да забележи реален раст од 6 отсто. Увозот е предвидено да забележи раст од 4,7 проценти, со што нето-извозот би имал благ позитивен придонес кон економскиот раст, рече Миноски на вечерашната прес-конференција во Владата.
