Women informal workers across the world are calling for quality public child care services. Having a young child to look after reduces women's working hours and lowers their earnings at a time in their lives when they need this money most. Their low incomes and poor working conditions on public streets and markets, in waste dumps, and in their own home or their employer's home, are not safe spaces for their infants and toddlers. Access to quality public child care services protects women's earnings and ensures their children have an equal start in life. Without government subsidies, quality private child care centres are too expensive for women informal workers.

Why gender equality is THE social and political issue of our time
'Unlock the power of girls now' has been built from research gathered over the last decade. By carefully listening to young people, in particular, adolescent girls, the report reveals that girls still face discrimination and violence despite laws, policies and global targets put into place to advance change.
This is why gender equality must be the social and political issue of our time.
2017 Campaign - 2017 Theme Announcement & Take Action Kit
"FROM PEACE IN THE HOME TO PEACE IN THE WORLD: MAKE EDUCATION SAFE FOR ALL!"
Given such insecurity and lack of safety in relation to education, and informed by the results of a global survey, the theme of the 16 Days Campaign is “From Peace in the Home to Peace in the World: Make Education Safe for All”. This theme recognizes that structural discrimination and inequality is perpetuated in a cycle of violence that does not end even when girls and young women are in the act of gaining an education. Gender-based violence with respect to the right to education is a consistent threat in public spaces, schools, and homes and is a detriment to the universal human right to education and it is our obligation to focus on the precarious situation of education for girls and boys, young women and men this year through the 16 Days Campaign.
Organisation for Economic Co-operation & Development (OECD) aims to promote policies that will improve the economic & social well-being of people around the world.
