Women Informal Workers Child Care Campaign

Women informal workers across the world are calling for quality public child care services. Having a young child to look after reduces women's working hours and lowers their earnings at a time in their lives when they need this money most. Their low incomes and poor working conditions on public streets and markets, in waste dumps, and in their own home or their employer's home, are not safe spaces for their infants and toddlers. Access to quality public child care services protects women's earnings and ensures their children have an equal start in life. Without government subsidies, quality private child care centres are too expensive for women informal workers.
