As the clamour grows for a woman to be chosen as the next Secretary-General, other high-level staff appointments have been quietly but steadily defying the UN's longstanding goal of gender parity. Seemingly unnoticed, this year's selections for the seniormost level of UN staff have skewed nearly 92 per cent male. Between 1 January and 10 December 2015, 22 men and only two women were appointed as UN undersecretaries-general, according to public sources.
Elina, a sex worker in Kyrgyzstan, was blackmailed, beaten, and wrongly arrested by the police—who then threatened to put her daughter into state custody if she filed a complaint.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Stigma and criminalization put sex workers at risk.
Today, on the International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers, we’re taking a look at these human rights violations and the organizations working to prevent them.

FOKUS – Forum for Women and Development in Norway has launched a campaign where boys from Norway and Tanzania are talking about gender equality, power and politics.
The campaign is called Small Men on Big Issues, and the goal is to engage men and boys in the fight for gender equality. It consists of a series of short films where Norwegian and Tanzanian boys aged 5-9, talk about gender equality. The films are available in English and Norwegian. Our main target group are men from 30-60 years old, but we think that the campaign can appeal to younger boys as well.
We will publish the films this week (from December 14 to December 18) on the FOKUS Facebook page, Twitter and on a campaign website www.smallmenonbigissues.com. We hope that you will like the campaign, and that you will help promoting it by sharing the films and the link to the website in your channels.
