Aid in Support of Gender Equality & Women's Empowerment - Donor Charts

The Mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems. We work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment OECD - http://www.oecd.org/about/

According to a recent OECD report, although aid to support gender equality has been growing globally, these funds are rarely channeled through women’s rights groups. Global support to women’s rights organizations has actually significantly decreased.

UK - Girls' Attitudes Survey 2015

Health and well-being The issues affecting girls’ and young women’s health and well-being are wide-ranging. Whereas girls in 2010 were most worried about ‘traditional’ health risks like smoking, binge drinking and drug abuse, girls in 2015 highlight self-harming (75%), smoking (72%) and mental illness (69%) as top health issues. Girls say that the adults around them don’t recognise the pressure young people today are under (82%). Almost half of those aged 11 to 16 report experiencing bullying through social media (45%) – yet girls feel their parents are more concerned about drug use, alcohol and smoking. Of those aged 11 to 21, 37% say they have personally needed help with their mental health, which is worrying when fewer than half of girls aged 11 to 16 say that they have talked about mental health during lessons at school (44%). Over half say they’d like to know more about where to get help and support (52%).

The Intersection of Child Sexual Exploitation & Technology - Cautions for Girls

While the Internet and advances in technology over the past few decades have allowed us to create many amazing things, they have also introduced a new threat and dimension to crimes against children. The Internet makes content and abuse easier to identify and participate in; like-minded individuals can create communities to justify their actions; digital imagery and videos allow abuse to be shared globally at the push of a button; and private and encrypted networks protect individuals that participate in the most egregious types of abuse.

What is child pornography?

Section 2256 of Title 18, United States Code, defines child pornography as any visual depiction of sexually explicit conduct involving a minor (someone under 18 years of age). Visual depictions include photographs, videos, digital or computer generated images indistinguishable from an actual minor. Electronically stored data that can be converted into a visual image of child pornography is also deemed illegal under federal law. Furthermore, Federal law prohibits the production, distribution, reception and possession of an image of child pornography, whereupon violation of this law is a felony, and carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison (United States Department of Justice).
