UN Chief Asks All Nations to Sign New Pact Protecting Women
By Barbara Crossette • August 21, 2017
Anti-rights mobilization at the international level constitutes a response to the significant feminist and progressive organizing and impact therein over the past three decades. It also represents ultra-conservative actors’ new commitment to multilateral processes as a space of influence. Today we are witnessing a set of interlocking factors that paint an unsettling picture of our human rights system under attack: increased coordination of religious fundamentalists across regional, institutional, and religious lines in human rights spaces, and the strategic and proactive undermining and co-optation of our human rights framework.
This research Report focuses on the Global South – Sub-Sahara Africa, Asia & The Pacific, Latin America & The Caribbean. The research and Report aim to identify the interlinkages between new conceptualizations of care, new actors in the field and the implementation of new care policies. The fact that SDG 5.4 relates care visibility with "the provision of public services, infrastructure and social protection policies" might make care policies more prominent on governments' agendas, while at the same time posing a challenge to social protection systems, which are typically focused on poverty alleviation and inequality reduction.

Our world is ageing and, in some countries and regions, rapidly. The fact that people now live longer, in better health, and generally in better conditions than ever before is a remarkable success story. But what opportunities and challenges does this bring? This report brings together new work that re-conceptualizes the "costs" of ageing. It aims to shift the debate from one that is narrowly defined by financing and expenditure to one that focuses on social investment and long term planning, in short, arguing for more of a positive approach.
