CRACKING THE CODE:Girls' & Women's Education in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM)
UNESCO’s groundbreaking report aims to ‘crack the code’, or to decipher the factors that hinder or facilitate girls’ and women’s participation, achievement and continuation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. It presents the status of girls’ and women’s participation and achievement in STEM subjects at different levels of education, drawing on cross-national and regional assessments from more than120 countries. It suggests an ecological model to identify individual-, family-, school and societal-level factors influencing girls’ participation, achievement and progression in STEM education, and interventions that can be taken at these different levels to inspire, engage and empower girls and women in STEM.
