UN Wire - Maternal Deaths Almost Halved over Past 25 Years
The number of maternal deaths worldwide dropped 43% between 1990 and 2015, says a report by the World Health Organization and World Bank. "Over the past 25 years, a woman's risk of dying from pregnancy-related causes has nearly halved," says Flavia Bustreo, WHO's assistant director-general for family, women's and children's health. However, only nine countries achieved the Millennium Development Goal of reducing maternal deaths by 75%, the report says.
BANGKOK, Nov 12, 2015 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Only nine countries have achieved a UN development goal of reducing the number of women dying before, during or after giving birth by 75 percent since 1990, the United Nations and the World Bank said.
Worldwide, maternal mortality fell by 43 percent in the 25-year period, thanks to access to better-quality health services during pregnancy and childbirth, and to sexual and reproductive health services and family planning, they said in a report.
"Over the past 25 years, a woman's risk of dying from pregnancy-related causes has nearly halved," said Flavia Bustreo, assistant director-general for family, women's and children's health at the World Health Organization (WHO).
По петдневна расправа, Собранието на Република Македонија пред полноќ го донесе Буџетот за 2016 година, со 66 гласови „за“, 28 гласови „против“ и без воздражни. По скратена постапка беше донесен и Законот за извршување на буџетот за 2016 година.
Пратениците од опозицијата гласаа против зашто сметаат дека буџет од 3,2 милијарди евра и највисок досега. За нив тој е неприфатлив зашто е нереален, неостварлив, неразвоен и нетранспарентен. Според СДСМ, државата има јавен долг од 4 милијарди евра, а новиот буџет ќе значи нови долгови и сиромашни граѓани.
Расправата почна на 16 ноември. Според Деловникот, таа на пленарна седница трае пет работни дена. Како и во изминатите четири дена, и денеска собраниската седница помина во конфронтирање меѓу пратениците од владејачкото мнозинство и опозицијата и меѓусебни обвинувања за политиките.
Пред гласањето се обрати вицепремиерот и министер за финансии Зоран Ставрески кој им се заблагодари на пратениците за дискусиите.
Мрежата за заштита од дискриминација изразува загриженост за нападот на дете од ромската етничка заедница кој во средата, 11.11.2015 година, се случил кај пекарата СИЛБО, во центарот на градот Скопје. Имено, според очевидци, детето било малтретирано и удирано, наводно поради тоа што барало пари од луѓето кои купувале во пекарата. Очевидец го пријавил настанот во полиција, која дошла за многу кратко време пред пекарата и земала изјави од лицата кои наводно го сториле делото и од очевидецот кој го пријавил настанот.
Сметаме дека со ваквите дејствија лицата извршиле кривично дело, поради тоа што во група го малтретирале, телесно го повредиле и ја загрозиле сигурноста на детето. Ако се земе во предвид дека делото е извршено на јавен простор - пред угостителски објект во центарот на градот Скопје и пред поголем број на други лица, гости в објектот, може да се констатира дека сторителите со овие дејствија предизвикале чувство на несигурност, загрозување и страв кај останатите присутни.

12 NOVEMBER 2015 ¦ GENEVA ¦ NEW YORK - Maternal mortality has fallen by 44% since 1990, United Nations agencies and the World Bank Group reported today.
Maternal deaths around the world dropped from about 532 000 in 1990 to an estimated 303 000 this year, according to the report, the last in a series that has looked at progress under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). This equates to an estimated global maternal mortality ratio (MMR) of 216 maternal deaths per 100 000 live births, down from 385 in 1990.
Maternal mortality is defined as the death of a woman during pregnancy, childbirth or within 6 weeks after birth.
“The MDGs triggered unprecedented efforts to reduce maternal mortality,” said Dr Flavia Bustreo, WHO Assistant Director-General, Family, Women’s and Children’s Health. “Over the past 25 years, a woman’s risk of dying from pregnancy-related causes has nearly halved. That’s real progress, although it is not enough. We know that we can virtually end these deaths by 2030 and this is what we are committing to work towards.”
